Classroom Management-Michael Linsin

Sometimes at work, I stop and observe others. I see that some teachers have wonderful management--magical even--while others are lacking, and drowning in it. Then I ask myself, "What is it that makes management happen?"

This website explains it. Basically it boils down to leverage, simplicity, consistency, and the responsibility of choice, among other things. I questioned it of course, but knew from the countless PD's I've attended that these are valid tips; the comments below each post of his from teachers were extremely helpful because they're from teachers presenting their concerns. His responses are professional and helpful.

My only criticism is that umbrella-strategies are kind of dangerous. Meaning not one size fits all. I wonder what population he's ever worked with; I know he comes from a middle-school age range, but I wonder if was it a suburban or urban environment? That kind of thing...although as one who grew up in the burbs I can attest there's just as much trouble in the suburbs...they're not all like Mr. Roger's neighborhood...

In the end, I would not post something in this blog that I thought wasn't helpful, or that was faulty in any way. This website really was pretty insightful, and hopefully if you are an educator you will learn something like I did.
